Summer continues at Grace!

parents date nightFriday August 2nd will be our next Parents Night Out from 5 – 9 p.m.  childcare will be provided for children ages 3-12 by our trained and background-checked ministry staff while parents can enjoy a night out!  Dinner and snacks will be served, along with games, crafts, a movie, and more!  An emergency medical form and contact sheet must be filled out for each child.   Donations for this awesome service go directly to missions.

Our 3rd Summer Outdoor Movie will take place on Friday, August 9th at 8:30 p.m. and will be “How To Train Your Dragon”.  Popcorn and drinks will be served in the parking lot.  Bring a chair or blanket to sit on and enjoy a movie under the stars!

 

On Sunday, August 11th there will only be one worship service, at 9:00 a.m.  

 

mercy me at redsSunday, August 11th is Faith Day at Great American Ballpark.  Tickets are $17.50 each for Reds vs. Padres, with a free concert by Mercy Me to follow the game.  Call the office at 335-0460 to reserve your tickets now!

Sunday, August 18th is our 2nd annual Rock The Block Party!  come out and enjoy free food, live music, carnival style games, and more!  We will have Identi-Kid kits, free back to school haircuts, raffle prizes, and a school-supply give-away!  See you in the parking lot from 4 – 6 p.m.!

June Events at Grace Church

 

 

parents night outOn Friday, June 7 the Joplin Team will be offering child care for your children ages 3-12 in exchange for a donation to support the Team.  They will serve dinner, snacks, have games and crafts, and a movie will be shown.   come out and support the Joplin Team and get a parent’s night out as well!  Emergency medical forms will need to be filled out for each child in attendance. 

 

Personal Prayer Time will be on Sunday, June 9th at 4:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary.

Red Cross Bloodmobile will be here on Tuesday, June 11th from 10 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  Call 335-3101 to make an appointment.  Give the gift of life!

 

 

On Friday, June 14th Impact will be having a game night.  This is open to all kids of the community in grades 3-5.  come join in the fun, followed by….

Our very first Outdoor Movie!  Free movie and popcorn in the parking lot beginning at 8:30 p.m.  This month’s showing will be the movie “Brave”.  This is a great event for all ages!  Bring something to sit on and come out to enjoy the movie.  If raining, movie will be shown in the Sanctuary.  The next Outdoor movies will be July 12th and August 9.

On June 23, our team of 27 sets off for Joplin, MO. to help rebuild, restore and renew that community, which was devastated by a May, 2011 tornado.  Please keep our mission team and all who they come in contact this week in your prayers.  The team returns Friday, June 28th. 

 

 

Lastly, alteddies run postcardhough this event is technically in July, it certainly deserves an early mention.  The first annual Eddie’s Run will take place on Saturday July, 6th.  This is a fundraiser to benefit Fayette County Special Olympians.  The fun begins at 11:00 a.m. with lunch and registration for a motorcycle run around Fayette County.  At 1 p.m. the motorcycle riders take off, and the fun carnival and family games will continue.  Local artists and bands will supply entertainment all day.  When the bikers return, there will be a best bike of show contest, a raffle for some prizes, more food and music and games!  Open to the entire community, as all events at Grace Church are, and is an event to raise money to help pay the costs of the Fayette County Special Olympics team.  Hope to see you there!

Upcoming Events!

Ash Wednesday Worship Service will be on February 13, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary.  ash wednesday

Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the season of Lent. Lent is a time when we as Christians prepare for Easter by observing a period of fasting, repentance, moderation and spiritual discipline.

Ash Wednesday emphasizes two themes: our sinfulness before God and our human mortality. This service focuses on both themes, helping us to realize that both have been triumphed through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

During this Ash Wednesday service, Pastor Mick will lightly rub the sign of the cross with ashes onto the foreheads of worshipers who wish to have this done. Not everyone chooses to have the ashes imposed.  The use of ashes as a sign of mortality and repentance has a long history in Jewish and Christian worship. Historically, ashes signified purification and sorrow for sins. 

It is traditional to save the palm branches from the previous Palm Sunday service to burn to produce ashes for this service. The ash cross on the forehead is an outward sign of our sorrow and repentance for sins.

parents night outParents Night Out!   On Thursday, February 14th, the Joplin Mission Team will provide childcare for children 1 – 12 years old from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in exchange for a donation to support the mission Trip to Joplin this June.  Parents can drop their children off for an evening of games, crafts, and fun (dinner and a snack provided) so they can go out and celebrate Valentine’s Day.  Emergency Medical Forms and contact information must be completed at the time of drop off.   Come support the Joplin Mission Team and get a night out at the same time.  Reservations are required by February 11th to allow us to plan adequately for the meal and games.  Please call the church office at 740-335-0460 to reserve a spot for your child!

Sunday Night Community Meals

Community_mealWe invite the entire community to join us for a hot meal each Sunday Night at 5:30 p.m. in Fellowship Hall.  Following the meal, Pastor Mick, our praise band and music director will lead us all in worship through song and open discussion.  We look forward to seeing you for this fun and free event each Sunday.

A Night of Hope and Healing

 

Grace Church would like to bring to your attention “An Evening of Hope and Healing” for the victims and community of Newtown, CT.   This event will be hosted by Max Lucado and begins on Tuesday, January 15 at 6:00 p.m. live from Bridgeport, Connecticut.

The event will include Christian artists Chris Tomlin, Mandisa, Casting Crowns, Tobymac, Steve Curtis Chapman and his wife MaryBeth, Bldg 429, and Laura Story. Author and Pastor Max Lucado will share messages of encouragement, along with Louie Giglio.

This free event is designed to bring comfort to the community through music, prayer, and uplifting messages. 10,000 tickets were given to the victims’ families and citizens of the local area.

This event will begin at 6:00 pm ET and is available through livestreaming online, one time only, accessible through a link you can find on www.maxlucado.com and then click on the green heart (like the one above) to get to the link. 

It is sure to be a moving and powerful experience.
